Who are we?

Inspired is an open and strong partnership network that advocates for the role of arts and culture in young people’s lives. It brings together arts and cultural sector organisations, educational institutions, individual artists and educators, academics and researchers and cross sector agencies to further our vision.

Our programme of activity aims to create a shift change in the way the agencies supporting children and young people in Sunderland – schools, cultural sector, health and social care organisations and others – work together to embrace cultural education with the common aim of impacting children and young people’s lives and wellbeing, now and in the future.

Our next meetings...

Monday 18th November

2.30-4.30pm, Houghton Library, 74 Newbottle Street, DH4 4AF

The transformative power of the arts must be recognised, as it provides opportunities to be creative and innovative and enhances the ability to expand one’s imagination.

National Context

Arts Council England in partnership with the Department for Education launched The Cultural Education Challenge to improve the alignment of cultural education for young people through Local Cultural Education Partnerships (LCEPs).
LCEP programmes in Great Yarmouth, Bristol and Barking & Dagenham were initially piloted by the Arts Council in partnership with the British Film Institute, Heritage Lottery Fund and English Heritage.  Since then, over 90 LCEPs modelled on these successful partnerships have been established across England.
Each Local Cultural Education Partnership works with schools, the local authority, voluntary and community organisations, Higher Education, Music Education Hubs, and other funders to drive a joined-up art and cultural offer locally, to share resources and bring about a more coherent and visible delivery of cultural education.

How are we funded?

We apply for funding with our partners to run arts and cultural projects in Sunderland. We received match funding from Arts Council England to run six action research projects which will take place 2023-2024. We receive a small amount of core funding from Arts Council England to continue our mission.

We aim...

To create more opportunities for children and young people to engage in creative activity through collaborative working that adds value to what currently exists.

We aim...

To organise and support targeted events that encourage arts engagement.

We aim...

To develop a programme of training events to support local artists and teachers to confidently deliver arts activities in schools.

We aim...

To develop a programme of mapping, research and evaluation projects and a communications strategy to further advocate for the arts and a creative curriculum and to address areas where children and young people are most in need.

We aim...

To develop the cultural education partnership itself to address the vision and aims it embraces.
